EXPLORE KAŠTELA

Explore Kaštela

On a 17-kilometer stretch of Croatian Adriatic coastline in Dalmatia, between the heritage-listed UNESCO cities of Split and Trogir, seven ancient settlements merged to form today's town of Kastela. Our town is unique because it developed around these 7 castles: Kaštel Štafilić, Kaštel Novi, Kaštel Stari, Kaštel Lukšić, Kaštel Kambelovac, Kaštel Gomilica and Kaštel Sućurac. Kastilac, one of the gorgeous castles and another incredible Game of Thrones location, was a Benedictine monastery fortress on the Adriatic Sea. Due to the Turkish threat, during the 15th century the Benedictine nuns completed the construction of a fortified settlement on the islet of Gomilica—40 m away from the shore, connected by a stone bridge, and protected by a high defensive tower. Castle Kastilac is just 70 meters below the studio apartment, and its vicinity gives the apartment a mystical touch. The Museum of the town of Kaštela found its place in the Vitturi castle, and an exhibition room in bishop’s summer residence in Kaštel Sućurac. Every year from July 1 – August 31 the”Kaštela Cultural Summer” takes place. There are over 60 exhibitions, theatre shows, pop and classical music concerts, folklore, sport events and festivities (fishermen’s, hunters’, mountaineers’). Events are held at the most attractive places at the historic centers, castles and by the sea.
